Logitech F710 with Windows 8.1

By default, Windows 8.1 cannot install the proper driver for Logitech F710.  It will be shown in Device Manager but no driver is available.  There are many possible workarounds to fix this issue.  Some claim that one method or another works but after a few months passed doesn't.  So, I collect all of them here just to backup this info in case Logitech decides to remove these sometime in the future as the product becomes obsolete.  This problem happened back when Windows 8.1 was launched and people complained over public forum on Logitech own website and there is no official corrective action.  So, there is no hope from Logitech.  But if you're stuck with one of these, tried the workaround.  Some of them will work.

Here is another solution for f710 in windows 8.1 x64. I don't like analog mode with xbox360 driver so I find how to make it work in digital mode with original logitech software. The problem actually isn't in driver it's in driver signature.
1) Download latest logitech driver for windows 8 x64.
2) Remove old one if exist.
3) Close all your applications.
4) Move mouse to the upper right corner -> settings -> (at the bottom) change PC settings -> update and recovery -> recovery -> (Advanced startup) Restart now.
5) Troubleshoot -> Startup Settings -> Restart.
6) After reboot press 7 in the blue boot menu screen to Disable driver signature enforcement.
7) Turn D mode on gamepad.
8) Install driver. Now it works! Software can find gamepad and allow you to change settings.
9) Reboot again.
Thats all (:

The issues with the F710 and any other Logitech controller are not limited to Windows 8.1.
On my Windows 7 PC the controller has the same issues.
On both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 there are currently no fully working drivers since Logitech has not updated them and I assume the issues were introduced with DirectX 11.1 which is also installed on Windows 7 once you update the Internet Explorer to version 11 - which is strongly recommended even if you - like me - never use it due to the fact that a lot of programs make use of the IE's engine (eg Steam).

I read somewhere in this thread that Logitech was allegedly working on a new driver. Dear Logitech tech staff, I hope you are really working on this since we have to use drivers from a third party (Microsoft) to get a product from YOU (Logitech) working. That lack of support is not appreciated.

I can use my F710 on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 but the force feedback (vibration) is no longer working!!!
Has anybody found a way to re-enable it?
The gamepad itself used to vibrate once you switch vibration on or off but now pressing that button does NOTHING. This can only be explained by the incompatbility between the Xbox 360 controller driver and the gamepad's internal mapping which is not correctly adressed by the driver.

Dear Logitech, please provide us with new drivers for Windows 7 AND Windows 8/8.1 that support vibration. Thanks!

@Korgnex: i didnt pay any attention to the vibration function until you mention it,
i guess the "wireless Xbox 360 receiver" have incompatibility with the vibration function, i hope there is an update soon for a real driver for F710 on windows 8.1, especially x64 OS

i just tried on Prototype 2, i switch to "DInput", and the vibration is back, but it feel like the vibration is a little smaller than it usually does on windows 7,

update:
after i read this post: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Logitech-G-Controllers/F710-weak-vibration-in-Xinput-mode/td-p/948856,
i tried to use "Duranzo (Xinput wrapper)", and then the vibration on "XInput" is working again, but i still feel the vibration is a little weak than it usually does on windows 7.

Ok to everybody i have the fix and it's  realy easy just go watch my video and sorry for the mic

Logitech F710 problem solved :smileyhappy: :smileywink: And please subscribe and give me a like .
same toturial but the volume is high http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r72vJxv-pVs&feature=youtu.be

Roach128's idea worked! I was surpirsed, I expected it to be a waste of time, but it worked fine for me! I unistalled my Logitech driver and xbox driver, and installed it like he said, and it worked just fine without the xbox driver now!!! For anyone who didn't catch his post, this is it...

"Here is what worked for me. Perhaps the issue has already been resolved but I came accross this thread when I was having trouble and I thought I would post what I did. It might help someone else. I am on Win 8.1 64 bit.  Download software from:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/wireless-gamepad-f710?section=downloads&bit=&osid=23  chose windows 8 and multilingual 64-bit.  Leave reciever out of usb port. Install software and when it gets to the detecting devices insert the usb reciever and put the selection switch in front of controller to D instead of X (on my setup the installer would not detect the remote when on X), click next and it detects as a wireless rumblepad 2, click next and continue installation. Now in devices window the controller shows up as F710 when switch is on X."

iHERE IS WHAT FINALLY WORKED FOR ME!!!  I tell you, I tried all this stuff and nothing worked.

Then what I did was i took out my old Wndows XP netbook.  And I just downloaded the Windows XP 32 bit syncing software and resynced the controller and the receiver on this different computer.  Once they were properly paired up on this old school computer I could take them back to my Window 8.1 computer and all was well.

If all else fails, try re-pairing the controller and the nanoreceiver on a different computer, preferably one using the old Wndows XP.  It worked for me!

Good luck everyone.  And thanks for your help

I had the same issue with my F710 controller. I have Windows 8.1 too.

What worked for me was:
  • (*important step for getting mine to work) Unplug any other logitech unifying receivers (i.e. for your keyboard and mouse)
  • Put controller in D mode
  • Plug in the nano receiver for your F710 and wait for windows to add the device (it will not work obviously)
  • Download the xbox360 drivers here: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows  get the Windows 7 version
  • Install the xbox drivers (i.e. just run the .exe)
  • Go to Device Manager
  • Right click on the controller and select update driver
  • Select 'Browse my computer'
  • Select 'Let me pick'
  • Select 'xbox 360 controller ... 21/08/2013'
  • Next
Now it should all be good. Plug back in your Logitech Unifying reciver if you had one, put your controller back on x mode and it should be all good now.

What a stuff around Logitech!!! Seriously

I got mine to work. Bascially go to Device Manager, uninstall any F710 drivers under Gamecontrollors. Then download and install the Logitech game software (from the F710 download page for Windows 8 either 64 or 32 bit).
->Then install the software (I should point out uninstall anyohter logitech software before this step).
-> Run the set up, when it comes to searching for the device, plug in the USB reciever , then switch the toggle on the controlleor to (d) from x. may have to do this a few times. then voila

worked for me

I had it working without Xbox 360 hack. This is what i did, hopefully it will help someone else.

I had the same problem, while i was trying to fix it, i unninstalled the updated version of Logitech Gaming Software, then i installed old application from F710 Download page (that its named the same way in the executable Lgs Logitech Gaming Software, but it is not) , it installed a Logitech Profiler never seen before, F710 controller worked. Then i downloaded up-to-date Logitech Gaming Software and installed it (cause i need it for my other Logitech gaming devices), now both applications are running and devices working fine.
ps. I had to create profiles for the F710, cause default made steam close.

uninstall everything including the Microsoft Xbox Accessories and Logitech profile software. Uninstall XInput driver also as the Direcinput (placing the control in both)
For the Driver you will put device management and control button "X" uninstall the driver that appears after you move the button to "D" and the same step.

Then follow the steps on the first page.

Thanks to Mads Larson and yansern for figuring this one out ( I had to use yansern's hacked inf file) !

Cintech,

The file you linked to is for logitech gaming software that controlls the gamepad when in directinput mode, this is already working normally.  In DirectInput mode the controller is detected as a RumblePad 2 and the Gaming Profile software controls it.

The problem is when connecting in Xinput mode.  The logitech software does not see the controller at all in this mode.  Windows treats the controller as a wired xbox controller, but calls it the F710.  On 32-bit windows this is all done automatically.  You plug it in, it detectsand installs the driversno problem.

When using the controller on a 64bit system, windows does not recognize the controller.  Rather, it sees it and calls it a F710, but it does not install the xbox 360 drivers for it automatically.  If you try to manually direct windows to locate drivers from windows update, an error message "windows cannot find drivers for this device" appears.

What Mads Larson and yansern did is to manually download xbox 360 control software and add the device id for the F710 to the driver file so that windows will recognize it as a usable driver.  Right now this works great but it's a few too many hoops for the average user to jump through.

I suspect that the real fix is something similar, that the 64bit xbox controller drivers on windows update need to have the F710 device id's added to them so that windows will install them automatically, as it is already doing on 32 bit systems.

On a side note, I don't think I had any issue installing my F310 on another x64 system, it seems to be specific to the F710

After confirm with shop's computer that also running Win7 64bit, the F701 do not need any additional driver.
Verify with my PC, confirm having driver install issue.
Did many work around and this is the solution.
Need a fresh install of the Win7 64bit, do not install any MB driver. My Intel DH67BL driver once install, the F701 no driver problem will happen and unable to resolve.
After fresh install Win7 64bit, do not install any other software or driver. Insert the Logitech F701 USB receiver and it will detect and install driver automatically. I tried 3 times to confirm that the Intel MB driver CD installation is the root cause.
Install the Logitech CD software come with the package and switch gamespad to D, it will then detect the gamespad and you can test and calibrate successfully. Switch to X and you will see Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class in Device Manager (Xbox controller mode).
Leave the USB receiver in your PC, now continue to install MB driver, anti-virus etc.

Why? Still unknown as I already tried to uninstall everything left Win7 program still fail to install the gamespad driver.
Only fresh install will work.

Logitech, pls do something for your customer.
I bought this is because the shop highly recommend this than XBox controller.
If I know all this trouble, I will not spend 3 days 3 night to figure out, including drive 30km back to the shop to check if the gamespad spoil or my computer problem.
It is not worth it for saving some money. As for now, highly recommend XBox controller that my friend use without any trouble to use or install.
Just have to live with what I had purchased.
Do not buy this F701 unless you are prepare to re-install your PC.

My hardware as reference:
Intel I5-2500, Intel DH67BL MB, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Sapphire HD5670 (just for casual games), Intel G2 160GB SSD, WD Green 640GB HDD, Cooler Master Vertex Plus low profile CPU heatsink cooler. Build for car racing games only.

Big Thanks to Mads Larsen and Yansern. There method worked for me.

Just to recap there method in one user friendly post.

Install the device like you would for the first time. expecting it to work. Don't "start from scratch" or anything like that. Then

Go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/downloads

Click "GAMING" tab.
Click "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows"

Download that as normal. For WINDOWS 7 64 BIT

Next download Yanserns "xusb21.inf" here. To your desktop or a location you can manipulate teh file from easily.
http://www.mediafire.com/?06akk8d06l4aguk

I've made a backup here(same file): http://www.gamefront.com/files/21352745/Xusb21.zip

Now go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>DEVICE MANAGER

You'll see a list of all your devices. Under "Other Devices" (Maybe somewhere else) you'll see a YELLOW TRIANGLE with an ! it should say something like "Logitech F710" or somethign descriptive enough for you to tell it's the game controller.

RIGHT CLICK on that and go to Properties. Go to the "DETAILS" tab. Select the catagory "HARDWARE IDS".
Should be something like

USB\VID_046D&PID_C21F&REV_0305
USB\VID_046D&PID_C21F

That's your personal HARDWARE ID. If you RIGHT CLICK you should be able to COPY it. Do that.

Now open the xusb21.inf that is on your desktop with NOTEPAD or some other bare bones word processor.

Right on the top you should see

"Wireless Common Controller USB\Vid_045E&Pid_0719"

Go to FIND/REPLACE and then select to REPLACE ALL "USB\Vid_045E&Pid_0719" with the one you COPIED from your personal DEVICE MANAGER.

SAVE the revised xusb21.inf. Open explorer and place your new xusb21.inf into the directory
PROGRAM FILES>Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories Software>

This should REPLACE the original.

Now go back to your DEVICE MANAGER. RIGHT click on the Game Controller Click PROPERTIES. Go to the DRIVER tab. Select UPDATE DRIVER and then choose the option to manually find the DRIVER just point to PROGRAM FILES>Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories Software>

Install the driver.

That should be it. You can just EDIT the original xusb21.inf from the XBOX controller install rather than downloading Yanserns as well. In case the files eventually go down.

Maybe have a look at this thread for an answer

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/Logitech-F710-questions-for-people-employed-in-Logitech/td-p...

maybe manually downloading the xbox pad driver from microsoft as mentioned in tha tthread then, try connecting your gamepad?

Also Have you downloaded the most recent drivers for the pad from

wireless connect utility
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/441/7361?softwareid=7495&osid=14&section=downloads

logitech profiler
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/441/7361?softwareid=6298&osid=14&section=downloads

Make sure you select "64 bit multilingual"

(see you also replied in that thread and did not help, sorry)

I spent some time troubleshooting this, reading this thread a couple of times without any luck, but now I finally found my solution, so I am here to share it with you guys.

Solution:

1. Get Xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2 64-bit for Windows 7

Link:  http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/DownloadResult.aspx?category=Gaming&type=Gaming&name=C8G-...

2. Install it

3. Find your controller in Device Manager (Either registered as F710 or perhaps Rumblepad2 <but with a yellow triangle>)

4. Update driver --> Browse computer for drivers
4.1 Choose the location "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories" (there should be a file called "Xusb21.inf").

Note: It may give you some options between xbox360 controller and WIRELESS xbox360 controller. Be sure to CHOOSE NON-WIRELESS xbox360 controller for windows

5. Should be done and working.. You can uninstall the xbox360 accesories if you want.

Hope this solution helps others.

If you have followed Mads Larsen's XBox 360 driver's solution (Link: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/Wireless-Gamepad-F710-Win7-64-Bit-No-Driver/td-p/529974) but it doesn't work, most likely you will need to hack the driver file "xusb21.inf" to include the device IDs of your F710 controller.

This is my F710's device ID:
USB\VID_046D&PID_C21F&REV_0305
USB\VID_046D&PID_C21F

If yours is the same, you may download my hacked "xusb21.inf" right here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?06akk8d06l4aguk

Unzip and overwrite the original "xusb21.inf" file in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories".

And then repeat Mad Larsen's solution again.

If your device ID differs from mine, you can replace my device IDs in that hacked INF file with yours.

With no support from Logitech and dozens of tickets closed. Their only resolution is to return the product as defective but it works on my laptop.

Uninstall the software
flip switch to the right for xbox mode
Install MS Xbox driver http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows/JR9-00011#support
Then install Logitech software lgs510_x64.exe (weird, shouldn't it be a 710 driver?)
softare wont show a compatible device, just finish
Let the driver fail
in device mge update driver
select let me choose from a list button
select microsoft on the left
I chose latest wireless gamepad and charging station
continue past this may not be compatible pop up
flip switch to the left for direct mode
run the logitech profiler

Logiech, how much are you paying me? You owe me bank!!! :smileysad:

Problems solved
- Install without using workaround in this topic ( but much more involved)
. WARNING don't reformat if you don't know what you are doing or how to keep your files and drivers
- D Pad swapped for Left Analog

****Windows 7 x64 Reformat***

(EDIT: This is an edit as i swapped D pad for Left Analog)

** It worked with fresh Windows 7 x64 install.
** The previously mentioned XBOX360 drivers work as well
** If you install the USB reciever IMMEDIATELY without installing anything else when you
arrive in windows desktop for the first time, EVERY CHECK works and it sees it as an XBOX 360 Controller
(with windows 7 x64 reformat)

- I reformatted my SoldStateDrive (SSD) and installed a fresh Windows 7 x64 bit
- DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ELSE !!!!!
. no chipset drivers, no usb drivers etc
. i would assume unless your board absolutely requires something
- I plugged in the Logitech F710 Reciever
- Pressed buttons on the controller to connect / green light
- Every Check went off and it saw it as an XBOX360 Controller
- I installed the Logitech Drivers Anyway

*****D Pad Switched for Left Analog Problem
- This isn't a problem but done by pressing the mode button. I think you have to press it on and off twice.
either way, by pressing that i realized the D-Pad swaps position for the Left Analog.
This made me feel silly as i thought it was the drivers and Workaround drivers etc.
EX: in Bioshock infinite i had to walk with the D-pad until i used the MODE button.

HOpe this helps someone

(Below was my original Topic before i fixed it)

I'm bumping this up again...

Left Analog stick gets mapped to the D-Pad.. with the xbox /MS driver.

Anyone have a solution to this ?
I'm specifically speaking of Bioshock Infinate but i'm sure problems will
arise in other games.

Hey everybody!!!!  I have the absolute fix for windows 7 x64 systems.  follow these steps.

1. Downlaod and install the Xbox 360 wireless controller for windows from the link in the above post.  (xbox 360 Accessories software 1.2 64-bit for windows)
2. Plug in controller in direct mode and should show up in your devices as Rumble Pad 2
3. Switch over to xinput mode and should show up as unknown device or wirless gamepad f710 and that it doesnt have a driver.
4. Go to control panel and then device manager.
5. Select under Other devices wireless gamepad 710 or unknown device.
6 Select update driver.
7. Select browse my computer for driver softwaware and then select let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
8. from the box select Microsoft Common Controller for Windows class.(alphabetical order)
9. Select Xbox 360 Controllers for windows version 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009] and press next and then press yes.

windows should then locate and install the driver to your Logitech wireless f710.

[Solution] How to get Logitech Wireless F710 Controller working with Xinput on Windows 7 64-bit

[ Edited ]
Since i have been googling for a while and found little helpful information on Exactly Step-By-Step how to get the game controller to work under Xinput ("X" on switch at back of controller) when it won't work on windows 7 64-bit, i thought i would post it up here to hopefully help others in the same situation

IF you have the game controller set to DirectInput ("D" on the switch at the back of the controller), you will need to install the Logitech software which you can get from here; http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/game-gear/wireless-gamepad-f710 under the Downloads Tab

If you don't know what the switch i am referring to is, please refer to this Support Article http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21360/section/troubleshoot/crid/411/lt_p...

Disclaimer:
  • These steps are for Windows 7 64-bit, they may work for other operating systems but i can not guarantee this will work for other operating systems
  • I can not guarantee that these steps will work for every configuration
  • I can not take responsibility for any problems created by not following the steps correctly
  • I wrote this up after doing all the steps, and i have posted each step as good as i remember it, i may have a button press missing or similar in the middle of a step

Step 1:
Verify your operating system is correctly detecting your controller properly by doing the following;
  1. Click on your Start Orb (a.k.a Start Button)
  2. Right Click on Computer
  3. Select Manage from the "Right Click Menu"
    - This may trigger a UAC prompt depending on your security configuration, just click Yes or Continue (whichever button is there)
  4. Pick Device Manager from the left hand column
  5. On the right hand column, if you can see the F710 under the Other Devices list, then proceed, to step 2
  6. If you see an entry called Rumblepad 2, then you are on "D", so install the logitech drivers linked above

Step 2:
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows and download "Xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2 64-bit for Windows 7" under the "Windows 7 (64-bit only)" Operating System Dropdown

Step 3:
Run the installer with all defaults
When the installer has finished, bring back up your Device Manager (See Step 1), right click on the F710 under Other Devices and select Update Driver Software, then select the following
  1. Browse my computer for driver software
  2. Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  3. Show All Devices
  4. Select Microsoft from the Manufacturer list
  5. Scroll to bottom of Model list and select Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows
  6. Click Next then Yes
  7. The Driver should now install and should succeed, then click close
Your F710 should now show as a Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows device under the Microsoft Common Controller For Windows Class list

Hope this helps people that are completely lost with getting it to work :smileyhappy:

some questions i have seen for google purposes to return this post
logitech f710 not working
logitech f710 device installation failed
logitech f710 xinput install error
logitech f710 64 bit windows 7 drivers
logitech f710 unknown device
logitech f710 no driver
logitech f710 wireless gamepad

Hi SemMax,

What is the Operating System of your computer?

The Wireless Gamepad F710 will normally report itself as "Cordless Rumblepad 2" while on DirectInput mode (see: Support Article 21364). What is unusual is that it's not detected in your games and in the Logitech Profiler.

Try to troubleshoot without installing the Logitech Profiler (uninstall it for the meantime). Your computer should detect it with its native drivers at this point. If not, then try the workaround provided in this post:

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Logitech-G-Controllers/F710-not-working-on-Windows-8-1-64-bit-X-positi...

Once the gamepad is detected with Xbox 360 drivers, then re-install the Logitech Gaming Software v.5.10 and run it in Admin mode. Here's how:

  1. Re-install the proper version of the Logitech Profiler on your PC (Logitech Gaming Software v.5.10 for x32 bit OS | Logitech Gaming Software v.5.10 for x64 bit OS).
  2. Locate LWEMon.exe in C:\Program Files\Logitech\Gaming Software\. Right-click on it and choose Properties.
  3. Go to the Compatibility tab and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Select Windows 7 or Windows XP (Service Pack 3) on the drop-down box.
  4. Check "Run this program as an administrator" under Privilege level.
  5. Click on Apply and OK to save changes.
Relaunch the Profiler and the gamepad should be detected. Try it and see how it goes. Hope this helps.
